They often masquerade as progress but mask a deeper nihilism: a willingness to abandon the Earth, ignore injustice, and sacrifice the present for speculative futures.
2. We Reject the TESCREAL Future
TESCREAL—Transhumanism, Extropianism, Singularitarianism, Cosmism, Rationalism, Effective Altruism, and Longtermism—represents a constellation of ideologies that claim to be rational, benevolent, and inevitable. But their narratives are rooted in colonial logic, eugenic fantasies, and utilitarian calculus that turns human lives into numbers in a cosmic spreadsheet. We reject the premise that future AI overlords, interplanetary elites, or uploaded minds should dictate the shape of humanity’s destiny.
3. Ethics Before Efficiency
We demand that ethics—not accelerationism—guide the development of AI, biotechnology, and planetary systems. We stand against the idea that disruption is inherently good or that existential risks can be solved by technocratic elites. Real safety means ecological stability, social justice, and democratic control—not just alignment with machine goals.
4. Remember the Earth
The planet is not a launchpad. It is our home. Any future worth imagining must be rooted in care for the land, waters, and all beings. Degrowth, indigenous knowledge, ecological restoration, and local resilience are not regressive—they are radical, necessary alternatives to planetary extraction and digital escapism.
5. Embrace Uncertainty, Honour Limits
The techno-utopian fantasy thrives on false certainty: that all problems can be solved if we’re smart enough, fast enough, or rich enough. But wisdom lies in humility. We must embrace complexity, honour limits, and resist the hubris that underpins AI superintelligence myths and geoengineering gambits.
6. Storytelling as Resistance
We believe in the power of narrative to challenge dominant paradigms. Ethical storytelling resists the seduction of neat futures and perfect algorithms. It invites pluralism, messiness, emotion, and situated truths. It creates space for alternative imaginaries—where solidarity matters more than optimisation, where care eclipses control.
7. Build with, Not For
We reject the saviour logic embedded in much of tech and philanthropy. Communities must co-create their futures. Solutions imposed from above—whether by AI developers, governments, or global NGOs—often replicate the very harms they seek to resolve. Justice means participation, not paternalism.
8. A Call to Communicators
To all writers, coders, educators, artists, designers, journalists, and digital creators: you are stewards of tomorrow’s myths. You have the power—and responsibility—to resist the gravitational pull of dominant ideologies. Choose nuance over noise. Choose futures that are fair, not just fast.
9. The Future Is Not Yet Coded
The world is still being written. We do not need to accept the dystopia offered by Silicon Valley’s libertarian elite. We can write a new story. One where ethics, ecology, and equity form the backbone of our digital and human future.
